Looking for a Housecall Pro alternative
Housecall Pro is built for home service businesses with a schedule to run and technicians to dispatch. If that is you, most of this page will argue you should stay.

The short answer
Housecall Pro is the better product if you dispatch technicians, want card payments collected in the field, and use its marketing and follow up tools. Invoice Local is the better fit if you are one or two people whose only real software need is producing a fast, clean invoice on site.
People look for an alternative to a platform like this for a consistent reason: the subscription stopped matching the usage. That is a fair thing to notice, and the fix is not always a cheaper platform. Sometimes it is a smaller tool.
The test is short. Write down what you did in the software last week. If dispatching, scheduling or chasing payment appear, stay. If it is only invoices and estimates, you are renting a fleet to drive one van.
What Housecall Pro does that this does not
The list is long and none of it is disputed here.
- Scheduling and dispatch with a live board and technician assignment.
- Card payments in the field, plus automated follow up on unpaid invoices.
- Customer communication including on the way notifications and review requests.
- Marketing tools such as postcards and email campaigns tied to your customer list.
- Reporting across jobs, technicians and revenue rather than just invoices.
What Invoice Local offers instead
Depth traded for speed and reach.
- Offline first. Invoices are created and stored on the device, so plant rooms and rural properties work normally.
- Free with no cap. Unlimited invoices, quotes and customers. Pro is $4.99 a month for designs, never for volume.
- Nothing to set up. No account, no onboarding, no import before the first invoice.
- One tap WhatsApp sending with a professional message in twelve languages.
- A phone sized workflow, designed for one hand and about thirty seconds.

When Housecall Pro is right
Any one of these makes the platform worth its price.
- You dispatch technicians and need a shared schedule
- You want customers to pay by card at the door
- You rely on automated reminders and review requests
- You use the marketing tools to bring work in
- You have enough revenue that a platform fee is a small share of it
When a plain invoicing app is enough
And the profile where the platform is expensive scaffolding.
- You are one person, or one person and a helper
- The only thing you open the software for is invoices and estimates
- You want to stop paying monthly for features you never touch
- You work in places with no usable signal
- You collect by transfer, cash or your own card reader already
- You want to be up and running in two minutes with no import
The cost comparison that actually matters
Invoice Local is free for unlimited invoices, quotes and customers, with Pro at $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year for extra designs and no watermark. There is no per invoice or per user charge.
Housecall Pro is a tiered subscription that buys a great deal more. The honest calculation is not the difference between the two prices. It is the difference between the platform price and the value of the features you genuinely use. For a busy two technician business that number usually favours the platform. For a solo trade who only invoices, it usually does not.
Questions about switching
Will I lose my scheduling if I move?
Yes, entirely. There is no calendar, no dispatch and no job board here and none are planned. If you move, your schedule goes back to a phone calendar or a whiteboard, which is fine for one van and painful for three.
What happens to card payments?
You would collect by bank transfer, cash or your own reader. Invoice Local does not process payments at any tier. If most of your money arrives through card on invoice, that alone is a reason to stay.
Can I bring my customer list?
No, there is no import. Customers are added as you next invoice them. For a solo trade the active list rebuilds within weeks, and for a business with hundreds of properties it is a real cost.
Is this a step backwards?
In capability, yes, and deliberately. It does one thing quickly and works where a connected platform cannot. Whether that is a step backwards or a step sideways depends entirely on how much of the platform you were using.
Which devices does it run on?
Android phones and tablets through Google Play, and any modern browser at app.invoicelocal.com. There is no iPhone app yet, so on an iPhone you use the browser version, which builds and sends the same PDF from the same account.
Other comparisons
If you would rather see the app in context than in a table, the trade pages show it billing real work. There is also a free invoice template and a guide to writing an invoice that gets paid.
Audit your own usage first
List what you did in your current software last week. If it is all invoices, this takes two minutes to try and costs nothing.
