Invoicing for electricians, done before you leave the driveway.
Build the invoice while the panel cover is still off. Parts on one line, labor on another, permit fee passed straight through, then one tap sends a clean PDF to the customer.
Free forever No card No account needed to start
The paperwork waits in the truck until Sunday night
You finish the last service call at half past five, throw the meter in the bin, and drive home. The invoice does not get written. It waits in your head, then in a note on your phone, then in a pile with four other jobs until Sunday evening when you finally sit down with a laptop and try to remember what you actually used on Tuesday.
By then the detail is gone. Was it three AFCI breakers or four? Did you charge for the disposal of the old panel? The homeowner remembers a number you said in the driveway, and you remember a different one, and now you are negotiating instead of billing.
Most invoicing tools are built for someone sitting at a desk with two screens and a bookkeeper down the hall. That is not the job. The job is standing in an attic with a phone in one hand, needing to record what you did before it evaporates.
Payment terms start on the day you issue, not the day you finish
This is the part that costs real money and almost nobody talks about it. If your terms are net 15, the clock starts when the invoice is dated. Finish on Tuesday and bill on Sunday and you have handed the customer five extra days for free, on every single job, forever.
The second cost is disputes. A line that reads "electrical work, 2,980" invites an argument. A line that reads "200A panel replacement, 8 hours, two electricians" does not, because the customer can see what they bought. Itemized invoices get questioned less, and the questions they do get are answered by the invoice itself instead of by a phone call.
The third cost is the jobs you never bill at all. The extra receptacle you added while you were there. The trip back for the missing cover plate. Small work that was real, that you did, and that never made it onto paper because the paper happened four days later.
What an electrician gets out of the box
Invoice Local is a phone app first. Everything below works on the device, in the field, with or without a signal, and none of it needs setting up beyond your business name.
Every kind of electrical work you bill for
There is no job type to configure and no category to pick. You write the lines that match the work. These are the jobs electricians most often build invoices for in the app.
On every PDF, without you touching a setting
An invoice that is missing a due date or a number is the invoice that gets paid last. These are on every document the app produces, whichever template you pick.
- Your business name, your logo on Pro, and licence line at the top
- A sequential invoice number you can override when your accountant wants a different series
- The issue date and a due date calculated from your terms
- Itemized lines with quantity, rate and line total
- A tax line when you charge tax, and nothing when you do not
- Payment instructions or bank details in the footer
- Amount paid and balance due once you record a part payment
- A print ready PDF that opens correctly on letter and A4 paper

A panel upgrade, invoiced the way a customer can read it
Here is an illustrative invoice for a residential service upgrade, with a deposit already taken at the quote stage. It is an example of structure, not a rate card.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| 200A panel replacement, 8 hours, two electricians | $1,440.00 |
| 200A main breaker panel and standard breakers | $865.00 |
| AFCI and GFCI breakers, 6 devices | $390.00 |
| Permit and utility disconnect coordination | $210.00 |
| Removal and disposal of old panel | $75.00 |
| Deposit received at quote acceptance | −$1,000.00 |
| Balance due, net 15 | $1,980.00 |
Example only. The figures are illustrative and are not a guide to what electrical work should cost in your area.
An electrician invoice template you can print or fill in
Two pages. The first is the worked example above as a finished document, so you can see what a clear one looks like. The second is the same sheet blank as an invoice, with the line descriptions this trade actually uses, and the amounts left empty because what you charge is yours.
Questions electricians ask before they switch
Is it actually free, or free until I need something?
Unlimited invoices and quotes are free forever, including customers, saved line items, WhatsApp and email sending and the Classic template. Pro costs $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year and adds five more templates and removes the small watermark. Nothing you have already created ever gets locked.
I have used a paper duplicate book for years. Why change?
A paper book works right up until the customer says they never got it, or you need to know what is still outstanding across twelve jobs. The app keeps the same speed as the book on site, then adds a sent PDF the customer cannot lose and a running list of who has paid. If you are billing two invoices a month, the book is fine. At ten a month it starts costing you.
Can I bill parts and labor separately?
Yes. Every line has its own description, quantity and rate, so materials, hours, permit fees and disposal all sit on their own row with their own total. Customers question itemized invoices far less than they question a single lump sum, and you can add a tax line that applies to the lines you choose.
Does it work in a basement with no signal?
Completely. The app is offline first, which means invoices are created and stored on the phone itself rather than on a server you need to reach. Nothing spins, nothing fails to save. If you have signed in for backup, everything syncs the moment you have bars again.
Can I send a quote first and invoice it later?
Yes, and that is the normal flow for larger work. Send a quote with a valid until date, and when the customer accepts, convert it into an invoice with one tap. The lines and totals carry over, the document gets a fresh invoice number, and any deposit you recorded is already deducted.
Do I need an account to start?
No. Install it, add your business name, and your first invoice can go out two minutes later. An account is optional and only adds cloud backup and sync if you use more than one device or want your data recoverable if the phone is dropped in a foundation trench.
Which devices does it run on?
Android phones and tablets through Google Play, and any modern browser at app.invoicelocal.com. There is no iPhone app yet, so on an iPhone you use the browser version, which builds and sends the same PDF from the same account.

If you still build invoices by hand, the free invoice template is a plain starting point. The invoicing guides cover the paperwork questions that come up most, and the comparison pages are there if you are weighing Invoice Local against another app.
